Access Control Systems in Winnipeg

Give each person the doors they need and take access away the day they leave, without changing a lock.

When an employee or a contractor finishes, the question that matters is who still has access. A key that was copied once is a key you cannot account for. Access control systems in Winnipeg let you decide, person by person and door by door, who gets in and when. You take that access away the day the job ends, and no lock gets changed.

Take Away Access Without Changing Locks

With a key system, every departure means chasing keys or paying to rekey. With access control, each person has their own credential, and you switch it off from the system. A cleaner can have the front door and nothing else. A contractor can have the loading dock for the length of a job.

We set this up so the people who run your building can do it themselves. Before we leave, your administrator practises adding a person, changing their doors and removing them. If you would rather call us for changes, you can do that too.

Doors, Readers and Cards

Each door gets a plan of its own. A front entrance, a server closet, a back door and a stairwell each have different needs. Some doors keep a key, and exit doors still have to open from the inside without a card. We look at the door itself first, because a reader cannot fix a door that does not close or latch properly. Then we choose the reader, the lock, the credentials and the cable route.

We install Kentix door access, with a card reader or keypad at each controlled door. We talk through which suits each group of users at the planning stage.

Where Access Control Fits in Winnipeg Buildings

Offices with a shared lobby, condominium buildings, schools and industrial units all use access control, and they use it differently. A condo board needs a clean way to handle owners, tenants and trades. A school needs different doors open at different times. An industrial unit needs to know which staff can reach which areas. We plan from how your building actually runs, then match the hardware to it.

If you already have cameras, your door events and your video can sit in the same system. We install both. Look at security camera installation if you want a camera at the same door, or commercial security systems if the job covers the whole building.

Wiring, Power and Support

Readers and locks need cable and power. We run the cabling ourselves, so the people fitting the lock are not waiting on someone else to finish the wall. See network cabling for how we handle that side of a job.

After the install you call us for changes, repairs or an added door. We have been in Winnipeg since January 2011 and we also serve Brandon and other Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario communities from here. We look after access systems under a maintenance contract if you want one.

Access Control Systems Questions

How much does an access control system cost?

It depends on how many doors you control, what hardware is on them now and how far the cable has to run, so we price it after we see the doors. The estimate lists every part and the time before you decide.

What are the four types of access control?

The textbook list is discretionary, mandatory, role-based and rule-based. For a building, the practical question is simpler. Who gets which doors, and at what times? We set that up person by person or by group, and we show your administrator how to change it.

What happens when an employee leaves or loses a card?

You remove that person's access in the system and their card stops opening doors. Nobody has to chase down a key or change a lock. We train your administrator on exactly this before we leave.

Can access control replace keys?

For daily entry at the doors you choose, yes. Some doors keep a key, such as a mechanical room, and an exit door still has to let people out from the inside without a card or a key. We plan each door with you instead of fitting the same reader everywhere.

Will it work on the doors we already have?

Often it does. We check the door, the frame, the lock and the cable route on a visit, and tell you what stays and what has to change. A reader cannot fix a door that does not latch, so we flag that before we quote.
